Connect Appointments have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join our established client’s manufacturing team in Sunderland.

This challenging role is ideal for a Welding Engineer with a strong background in materials and fabrication. As a crucial member of the quality department, you will contribute to the success of the company by ensuring adherence to quality standards, process development, continuous improvement, and supporting training and development initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Providing comprehensive support across the site, handling various tasks as needed
- Ensuring products are manufactured in accordance with company procedures and meet specifications, supplying relevant supporting paperwork
- Assisting Production with innovation, process development, standard operating procedures, and technology application for continuous improvement
- Inspecting materials, welds, dimensions, and painting processes, with opportunities for training and development
- Conducting inspections at different production stages, including at supplier premises, to identify non-conformities in line with company procedures
- Collaborating with the team and work independently to support inspection and auditing processes, contributing to general quality-related activities and projects within the quality department
To be successful in engineering role you will ideally have previous experience, with in-depth knowledge of quality and welding management systems ISO9001 and ISO3834. Combined with the following skills, traits and experience:
- Experience with EN1090-2 is advantageous
- Ability to support the improvement of processes and procedures
- Competence in welder monitoring, weld sequences/standard operating procedures (SOP), and distortion control
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and international specifications
- A background in welding/fabrication manufacturing and/or quality-related activities
- Knowledge of welding processes, with expertise in MAG being essential, and TIG, SMAW methods -advantageous
- Familiarity with materials such as S355-60, 690-60 plate and pipe, and 960-40 plate
- Experience with products like Harbour mobile cranes and LR crawler cranes
- Ability to communicate information clearly at all levels, coupled with a methodical and logical approach
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills to support the department
- Membership in a professional institute (TWI, CQI, NACE, IIW, CMI, etc.) is a must-have
- Travel within the UK and Europe for a few weeks per year will be necessary
An official qualification for a Welding Engineer accredited in the UK is required, such as the International Welding Engineer (IWE) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) certification – highly required.
